As Australia continues to accelerate its transition toward renewable energy, the Uungula Wind Farm marks another significant step in expanding the nation’s wind energy infrastructure. With construction progressing, the next phase will see the large-scale transport of wind turbine components to site.
The first shipment will arrive on Friday, 24 April 2026, with regular daily deliveries scheduled to commence from Tuesday, 28 April 2026. These deliveries are expected to continue over the next 10 to 12 months, supporting the growing demand for wind farm development across Australia.
Specialised Transport for Wind Energy Projects
Transporting wind turbine components requires highly coordinated oversized transport and logistics solutions. Each delivery is classified as Oversize Overmass (OSOM), reflecting the scale and complexity of moving critical infrastructure for renewable energy projects.
Components will be transported from the Port of Newcastle via key regional routes, including the Golden Highway, Saxa Road, Mitchell Highway, Goolma Road, and Twelve Mile Road, before arriving at site.
All OSOM vehicles will operate under strict safety and compliance conditions, supported by pilot vehicles and, where required, NSW Police escorts—ensuring safe and efficient delivery across regional road networks.
Supporting Australia’s Renewable Energy Future
Projects like Uungula Wind Farm highlight the increasing role of heavy haulage and project logistics in enabling the transition to clean energy. The movement of turbine blades, towers, and nacelles showcases the scale of modern wind farm construction and the importance of specialised transport expertise.
What to expect on the roads
Motorists travelling along these routes may encounter slow-moving vehicles and are encouraged to:
- Follow all signage and traffic directions
- Allow extra travel time when planning journeys
- Exercise caution and patience when passing OSOM vehicles
We appreciate the community’s cooperation in supporting safe transport operations during this important phase of renewable energy development.
